Due to the increased use of sophisticated facilities which characterizes today's computer programs, the traditional limitations of computer users are rapidly disappearing. Now that word processors can move freely twithin layout, page make-up and image handling, they are met with a multitude of new expressions and phrases.

The title of this dictionary reflects this shift: it contains not only the traditional terminology of the graphic industry, but also has ample coverage within the communications sector at large, especially within digital design, multimedia and communications.

Thus it is an important goal of the Dictionary of Digital Design and the Graphic Industries to constitute a helpful tool in reading and phrasing user's guides, instructions and commands, homepages etc.

This dictionary, which was first successfully published in 1991 as L&H Dictionary of Desktop Publishing and the Graphic Industries (L&H Grafisk/desktop Ordbog), has now been thoroughly updated to cover the rapid development of the graphic sector. This is why, in addition to traditional terminology such as ink mileage, adhesive labels, pull-out and endways (paper), you will also find state-of-the-art entries such as 1-up, differential spacing, drop shadow, jogging mode, quad right, drag and drop, web site and dingbat. With the additions of the 1997 edition, L&H's Dictionary of Digital Design and the Graphic Industries has been enlarged by almost 6,000 new entries. It will be difficult indeed to find words missing in this very comprehensive book.
